Ventilate and heat properly

What do you do when you perspire? Correct: you freshen up. And what should you do if the new double-glazed windows "perspire"? Simply ventilate properly!

Imagine that one day, despite the new double-glazing, condensation appears on the window panes and the walls possibly feel damper than before: this has entirely natural causes. Your old windows were never totally tight. This had the advantage of allowing regular, automatic air exchange. Visible steam from the kitchen and bath, but also the invisible moisture output from people (a person emits around 1 litre of moisture in 8 hours when sleeping) escaped due to „forced ventilation“. The disadvantage was a high level of heat loss and greater fuel oil consumption.

Do you now need to accept more moisture and its unpleasant after-effects for better heat and sound insulation with the new glass? No!! You only need to follow these tips:

How to ventilate properly

  • Ventilate all rooms for 20 to 30 minutes in the morning.
  • Depending on use, ventilate the rooms three to four times per day for 10 to 15 minutes each time.
  • When ventilating, the windows should be wide open. (Attention: not simply tilted!) The heating must be switched off and reset after the windows are closed depending on use.
  • If you follow these tips, you will have no moisture problems or condensation on your windows, you will be doing something towards a healthy living environment and saving heating energy thanks to the precisely closing windows.
